Staircases

4 Staircase Designs

The following are the four staircase designs which were drawn up during the second week of the course.

Design 1: Attachment

This first design is inspired by ribbons arising from the ground, which represents the seemingly innumerable claims of the individual as to remain attached to what they desire. Its significance is tied to the_kyza, as the designer(s) seems to maintain warm attachments and hold the designs in close regard. This staircase is composed of simple timber treads supported by timber stringers and handrail - all of which is white - and yet surrounded by a balustrade of wavy vividly coloured ribbons {red, yellow, navy blue}.

Design 2: Defy

This next design retains crystalline imagery, connoting the fragile vanity and pride of one who wishes to rise from the nadir, defy expectations and ascend to the zenith of their life. This is significant to the studio of Mountain & Moon, for the jewellery designs are realised with crystalline materials which defy design norms. This staircase is essential of metallic white treads with a simple triangular handrail; its supports and balustrade hold multicoloured triangular shapes {pinks, greens, blues, purples} which are of a glass material lined by metal.

Design 3: Bold

The third design is emblematic of a boulder - unmoving and bold in its will and spirit to extrude from the ground and brave the world. The design relates to the boldness of the  direction that the designs of the studio of the_kyza head towards. This staircase, 'cut out' of dark brown stone to varying degrees of roughness, holds a simplistic tread and rise design while having the balustrade to an extreme thickness and the handrail being cut out from the stone of the balustrade.

Design 4: Flowing

The last design encompasses the same motif as one of the sections drawn for flowing - a figure 8 shape - which holds the meaning of an infinite flow of inspiration and hope. This meaning holds great importance to the messages which are conveyed through the jewellery designs of Mountain & Moon. This figure 8 shape forms the aqua glass treads which are supported by golden metal supports. The balusters are alternating on each side of the tread and have the round handrail running through it - all of which are golden and of metal.

Sketchup Model

The second design (defy) was chosen to be furthered onto the CAD software Sketchup.
